Borwickfishing.co.uk is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the
highest standard, the Gold Award, by the Fisheries Accreditation Scheme – only
the second fishery in the whole of the UK to acheive this. The new Fisheries
Accreditation Scheme provides a set of fisheries management standards that set
benchmarks for good environmental practice. Aimed at improving the welfare of
fish and the habitat of the fishery, an FAS assessor checks water quality,
stocking rates, bio-security, underwater and marginal vegetation, and fishery
rules and policy; before granting a certificate. Qualifying fisheries are than
assessed as being of Bronze, Silver or Gold standard. Each of the nine waters
at borwickfishing.co.uk has been tested,
inspected and assessed individually and all have been awarded Gold Standard. Fishery Manager, Steve
Griffiths, said; “Throughout the development of borwickfishing.co.uk to the popular
fishery it is today, we have aimed for waters that provide excellent fishing
for a wide variety of species without compromising the welfare of the fish or
the natural environment. I am delighted that our efforts have been recognized
in the achievement of the Fisheries Accreditation Scheme Gold Award.” The
sudden change from very wet weather to very cold weather in the first half of
February has discouraged the fish from settling down to steady feeding. The
three very large Carp, stocked in Jimmy’s Lake
at borwickfishing.co.uk in January
2008 have yet to be banked. These are some of the heaviest to be caught this
far North in the UK.
Best was a Mirror Carp weighing in at a massive 38lb on the fish farm but temporarily down to 36lb as it emptied
its gut in transit. Next, and perhaps of greater interest to many, is a Common
Carp which still pulled the scales round to 33lb on arrival. The “baby” of the trio weighed a still very
respectable 32lb on the fish
farm. With the rich feeding in Jimmy’s Lake, all three fish will quickly regain the couple of
pound they lost in the tanks. With resident Carp, “Moonscale”, being caught
earlier this year at 32lb 10oz, and
still growing, and “Popeye” and a couple more chasing the magic 30lb, Jimmy’s
Lake at borwickfishing.co.uk offers
one of the best opportunities to catch 30pounders in the North West. Capture of 26lb and 27lb Pike show its not just Carp that grow
to specimen size. Interest by anglers in
catching these fish has been such that a membership syndicate is to be set up
from March 15th on Jimmy’s Lake at borwickfishing.co.uk. The 12 month 24 hour membership syndicate will allow
anglers to fish with up to 4 rods whenever they choose at no extra cost
(subject to availability). Click Here for further
details. Elsewhere on site, the
disturbed weather has made angling difficult. As the weather settles, good
catches of Carp are expected to resume on Fingals, Griffish and Dewhirst pools.
Feeder in deeper water is the banker tactic but good catches are still taken on
the pole. Pleasure anglers also enjoy sport with a wider variety of species
from Ide and Orfe to Rudd and Ghosties on Burn, The Last Blast and Little
Brooker. Ring Jimmy on 07984 399637 for up to the minute, on site information.
Another new facility at borwickfishing.co.uk is free tackle loan for beginners. There is no
charge for the loan of a 4 metre pole, but anglers will need to pay a £5
deposit which will be returned when the
pole is returned in good condition. Ready
made-up rigs, consisting of line, float, weights and hook plus a little bait
will cost just £1. (Click for Picture of
